A world that’s in danger of turning into a modern day digital Tower of Babel, where the English language alone becomes the linguistic cuckoo in the international nest, and diversity of language and hence opinion are slowly outlawed in favour of uniformity, can’t be a healthy place. A place where the wet dreams of the mass digital internet corporations such as Google, Microsoft and others will become increasingly forced on the world like a giant unasked for global technotronic orgasm.

According to tradition, a collection of people came to the land of Shinar following the great flood, under the direction of Nimrod. Nimrod is said to be the founder and the king of the first empire after the flood and is believed to be  a king that brought tyranny to the people while seeking to eliminate religious belief.  Under him, all the people spoke the same language. He started to build the Tower of Babel in order to reach the heavens in defiance of God.

Seeing this, God decided to step in (as you do) and confounded their speech so that they could no longer understand each other and scattered them around the world.

According to the King James version of the Bible:

4. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

5. But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

6. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

7. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

8. So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

9. Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

In this, the Welsh language is as good a language as any to offer a  Brittonic, European or international  lingua franca linguistic alternative to the  grey monoglotic English language digital hegemony that the internet is fast becoming. Cymraeg yw iaith y nefoedd. Google it.

Slightly worryingly also, the European Union Parliament building in Brusseles seems to be modelled on the original Tower of Babel (Twr Babel) design. It seems to even mimick the unfinished look of the original tower. Coincidence? Shabby chic architecture? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Have a look and make up your own minds.
